This year’s ‘Treasure Your Health’ Gala
will help fund mobile mammography
The
eighth Laughter is the Best Medicine Gala — an annual
comedy production of the Hunt Regional Healthcare Foundation
— will roll out the red carpet for more than 300 expected
guests Feb. 2.
The comedy headliner for the Gala will be pianist Dale Gonyea
who, at the age of 5, got up early one morning — and without
a single lesson — began playing the piano spontaneously.
The result today is spontaneous laughter from his audiences.
“This guy is worth every penny of the ticket price,”
says Ron Wensel, board chairman for the Hunt Memorial Hospital
District and a board member for the Greenville Entertainment
Series.
Ron and wife Julia, a member of the Foundation board, recommended
Gonyea upon their return last summer from a national talent
review in Nashville.
The emcee will once again be Dr. Don Newbury, a Gala fan favorite.
Don hails from Brownwood, where he served for several years
as president and then chancellor of Howard Payne University.
“He’s the funniest college president you are ever
likely to see,” says Jack Gray, director of the Foundation
and a longtime friend and fan of Don.
The theme of the 2013 Gala is “Treasure Your Health.”
Event co-chairs Peggy Cole and Marsha Fincher say, “Our
goal with the Gala is to make a positive impact in this area
by providing extra funds that will make great things happen
in healthcare.”
Foundation board chair Roz Lane says, “Proceeds from this
year’s Gala will help support two healthcare programs
that are vital to our area.”
The proceeds will help underwrite the Foundation’s campaign
to acquire a mobile mammography unit that will help save lives
of women in Northeast Texas by
expanding opportunities for early detection of breast cancer.
The Help on Wheels campaign kicked off just weeks ago to raise
the $300,000 necessary to bring the life-saving service to the
area. The balance of proceeds will continue to underwrite FitSTEPS
for Life®, a cancer rehabilitation program.
Since its inception in 2005, the Gala has raised more than $550,000
to make cutting-edge medical technology and services available
to people in the Hunt County area.
Medical advances that have been beneficiaries of Gala underwriting
include:
“The Foundation has made a huge difference in expanding
healthcare opportunities available to everyone in the Hunt County
area,” says Richard Carter, CEO of Hunt Regional Healthcare.
“The upgrades and new programs they have underwritten
are helping save and improve people’s lives. They are
helping us move healthcare from good to great.”
For the fourth straight year, the Gala will go onstage at the
Sam Rayburn Student Center on the campus of Texas A&M University–Commerce.
Gala tickets are on sale now at $75 single and $150 per couple.
Seating for the event is limited, and reservations are recommended.
